ܒܪ ܬܡܢܐ ܗܘܐ ܫܢ̈ܝܢ ܝܘܫܝܐ ܟܕ ܐܡܠܟ ܘܬܠܬܝܢ ܘܚܕܐ ܫ̈ܢܝܢ ܐܡܠܟ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܫܡܐ ܕܐܡܗ ܝܕܝܕܐ ܒܪܬ ܥܙܪܝܐ ܡܢ ܒܙܩܬ
bzqth mn ezry' brth ydyd' d'mh wshm' b'wrshlm 'mlk shnyn wkhd' wthlthyn 'mlk kd ywshy' shnyn hw' thmn' br
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

ܘܥܒܕ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܗܠܟ ܒܟܠܗ ܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܗܠܟ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܣܛܐ ܠܝܡܝܢܐ ܘܠܣܡܠܐ

He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.

ܘܒܫܢܬ ܬܡܢܥܣܪܐ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܝܘܫܝܐ ܫܕܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܠܫܦܢ ܒܪ ܐܠܨܝܐ ܒܪ ܡܫܠܡ ܣܦܪܐ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܐܡܪ

In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to Yahweh’s house, saying,

ܣܩ ܠܘܬ ܚܠܩܝܐ ܟܗܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܘܢܫܠܡ ܟܣܦܐ ܕܥܠ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܟܢܫܘ ܢܛܪ̈ܝ ܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ

“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into Yahweh’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.

ܘܢܫܠܡܘܢܗ ܠܥܒ̈ܕܝ ܥܒܕܐ ܕܒܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܒܕܩ ܒܕܩܐ ܕܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ

Let them deliver it into the hand of the workers who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and let them give it to the workers who are in Yahweh’s house, to repair the damage to the house,

ܘܢܫܠܡܘܢܗ ܠܢܓܪ̈ܐ ܘܠܐܪ̈ܓܘܒܠܐ ܘܠܐܪ̈ܕܟܠܐ ܠܡܙܒܢ ܩܝ̈ܣܐ ܘܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܦܣ̈ܝܠܬܐ ܠܡܫܪܪܘܬܗ ܠܒܝܬܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ
dmry' lbyth' lmshrrwthh psylth' wk'p' qys' lmzbn wl'rdkl' wl'rgwbl' lngr' wnshlmwnh
to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.

ܒܪܡ ܕܝܢ ܠܐ ܡܬܚܫܒ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܟܣܦܐ ܕܡܬܝܗܒ ܗܘܐ ܥܠ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܗܘ ܥܒܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ
hww ebdyn hw dbhymnwth' mTl 'ydyhwn el hw' dmthyhb ksp' emhwn hw' mthkhshb l' dyn brm
However, no accounting shall be asked of them for the money delivered into their hand, for they deal faithfully.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܚܠܩܝܐ ܟܗܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܠܫܦܢ ܣ̇ܦܪܐ ܣܦ̣ܪܐ ܕܢܡܘܣܐ ܐܫܟܚܬ ܒܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܝܗܒܗ ܚܠܩܝܐ ܟܗܢܐ ܠܣ̣ܦܪܐ ܕܢܡܘܣܐ ܠܫܦܢ ܣ̇ܦܪܐ ܘܩܪܝܗܝ

Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

ܘܐܬܐ ܫܦܢ ܣ̇ܦܪܐ ܠܘܬ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܢܬܝܒ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܫܠܡܘ ܥܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܟܣܦܐ ܕܐܫܬܟܚ ܒܒܝܬܐ ܘܐܫܠܡܘܗܝ ܠܥܒ̈ܕܝ ܥܒܕܐ ܕܦܩܝܕܝܢ ܒܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ
dmry' bbythh dpqydyn ebd' lebdy w'shlmwhy bbyth' d'shthkkh ksp' ebdyk 'shlmw w'mr pthgm' lmlk' dnthyb mlk' lwth spr' shpn w'th'
Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house.”

ܘܚܘܝ ܫܦܢ ܣ̇ܦܪܐ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܣܦ̣ܪܐ ܕܢܡܘܣܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܝ ܚܠܩܝܐ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܩܪܝܗܝ ܫܦܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܠܟܐ

Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.

ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܡܠܟܐ ܦܬܓܡ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܣܦ̣ܪܐ ܕܐܘܪܝܬܐ ܨܪܝ ܠܒ̈ܘܫܘܗܝ

When the king had heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.

ܘܦܩܕ ܡܠܟܐ ܠܚܠܩܝܐ ܘܠܐܚܝܩܡ ܒܪ ܫܦܢ ܘܠܥܒܟܘܪ ܒܪ ܡܝܟܐ ܘܠܫܦܢ ܣ̇ܦܪܐ ܘܠܥܫܝܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܘܐܡܪ
w'mr dmlk' ebd' wleshy' spr' wlshpn myk' br wlebkwr shpn br wl'khyqm lkhlqy' mlk' wpqd
The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

ܙܠܘ ܫܐܠܘ ܡܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܥܠܝ ܘܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܘܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܝܗܘܕܐ. ܥܠ ܦܬ̈ܓܡܐ ܕܣܦ̣ܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܐܫܬܟܚ ܡܛܠ ܕܪܒ ܗܘ ܪܘܓܙܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܪܓܙ ܥܠܝܢ ܥܠ ܕܠܐ ܫܡܥܘ ܐ̈ܒܗܝܢ ܡ̈ܠܘܗܝ ܕܣܦ̣ܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܐܝܟ ܕܟܬܝܒ ܒܗ

“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”

ܘܐܙܠ ܚܠܩܝܐ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܐܚܝܩܡ ܘܥܒܟܘܪ ܘܫܦܢ ܘܥܫܝܐ ܠܘܬ ܚܘܠܕܝ ܢܒܝܬܐ ܐܢܬܬ ܫܠܘܡ ܒܪ ܬܩܘܐ ܒܪ ܚܕܚܣ ܢܛܪ ܡܐ̈ܢܐ ܘܗܝ ܝܬܒܐ ܗܘܬ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܒܬܚܢܢܬܐ ܘܡܠܠܘ ܥܡܗ

So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܕܫܕܪܟܘܢ ܠܘܬܝ

She said to them, “Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܗܐ ܡܝܬܐ ܐܢܐ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܥܠ ܐܬܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܥܠ ܥܡܘܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܦܬ̈ܓܡܘܗܝ ܕܣ̣ܦܪܐ ܕܩܪܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ
dyhwd' mlk' dqr' dspr' pthgmwhy klhwn emwrwhy wel hn' 'thr' el byshth' 'n' myth' h' mry' 'mr hkn'
“Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

ܥܠ ܕܫܒܩܘܢܝ ܘܣܡܘ ܒܣ̈ܡܐ ܠܐ̈ܠܗܐ ܐܚܪ̈ܢܐ ܘܐܪܓܙܘܢܝ ܒܥܒܕ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܢܣܦ ܪܘܓܙܝ ܒܐܬܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܘܒܕܟܘܢ
w'wbdkwn mry' 'mr hn' b'thr' rwgzy nsp 'ydyhwn bebd w'rgzwny 'khrn' l'lh' bsm' wsmw dshbqwny el
Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’”

ܘܠܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܕܫܕܪܟܘܢ ܠܡܐܫܐܠ ܡܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܦܬ̈ܓܡܐ ܕܫܡܥܬ
dshmeth pthgm' d'ysryl 'lh' mry' 'mr hkn' lh 'mrw hkn' mry' mn lm'sh'l dshdrkwn dyhwd' wlmlk'
But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, tell him, “Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Concerning the words which you have heard,

ܚܠܦ ܕܐܬܟܪܗ ܠܒܟ ܘܐܬܬܙܝܥܬ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܟܕ ܫܡܥܬ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܡܪܬ ܥܠ ܐܬܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܥܠ ܥܡܘܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܠܬܡܗܐ ܘܠܠܘܛܬܐ ܘܨܪܝܬ ܠܒܘܫ̈ܝܟ ܘܒܟܝܬ ܩܕܡܝ ܘܐܦ ܐܢܐ ܫܡܥܬ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ
mry' 'mr shmeth 'n' w'p qdmy wbkyth lbwshyk wtsryth wllwTth' lthmh' dnhw' emwrwhy wel hn' 'thr' el d'mrth mdm shmeth kd mry' qdm mn w'ththzyeth lbk d'thkrh khlp
because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܗܐ ܟܢܫ ܐܢܐ ܠܟ ܠܘܬ ܐ̈ܒܗܝܟ ܘܬܬܟܢܫ ܠܩܒܪܟ ܒܫܠܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܚܙܝܢ ܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܒܟܠܗ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܐܢܐ ܥܠ ܐܬܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܐܬܝܒܘ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܦܬܓܡܐ

‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” So they brought this message back to the king.
